Interstate gang of auto lifters cum receivers involved in theft of expensive / luxury cars busted : 5 accused arrested

  • 20 stolen luxury cars recovered.   30 cases of M.V. theft have been worked out.
A team of PS R.K. Puram, South District has arrested 5 auto lifters cum receivers involved in theft of luxury cars, recovered 20 stolen luxury cars and worked out 30 cases of motor vehicle theft.
Accused arrested :
  1. Sanjay Singh, age 39 years s/o Giriraj Singh R/o H No SA/2, Shastri Nagar, Ghaziabad, UP.  
  2. Mobin Ahmed, age 34 years s/o Farid Ahmed R/o Gali No 3, Mohalla Majid Nagar, PS Lisari Gate, Meerut, UP.
  3. Salim @ Salim Chawal, age 30 year s/o Shahbuddin R/o H No 536, Jali Kathi Purva, Fateh Nagar, PS Delhi Gate, Meerut, UP.  
  4. Mannan @ Monu, age 32 years s/o Mohd Ali R/o H No 338, 2nd Floor, Gali No 22, Zakir Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Delhi.
  5. Kasim @ Kasim Lath, age 30 years s/o Saheed R/o H No 73, Jali Kothi, PS Delhi Gate, Meerut, UP.

Brief facts: Recently increase in thefts of various luxury cars from different areas of Delhi and NCR were reported and on minute analysis of the modus operandi of the accused persons, it was revealed that accused persons had used stolen luxury during theft of luxurious carr to avoid any suspicious or being apprehended.  A police team led by Inspr. Neeraj Chuadhary, SHO R K Puram consisting of Inspr. Arvind Sharma, ATO/R.K. Puram, Inspr. Vijaypal, Inspr. Inv. R.K. Puram, SI Suredner Rana, SI S K Singh, SI Vijay Kaushik, ASI Rakesh, HC Ritesh, HC Sanjeev, HC Sukender, HC Gulab Singh, HC Naim, Ct Praveen, Ct Manoj, Ct Ajit Punia, Ct Prashant & Ct Anuj was formed under supervision of Sh Somender Pal Tyagi, ACP/ Safdarjung Enclave to identify and arrest the criminals involved in such criminal activities. The police team developed intelligence to get clues about the movements of auto lifters / receivers.  The strategy and hard work of the team yielded results, when team got information about a gang of auto lifter / receivers hailing from Meerut, UP and active in the Delhi and NCR region.

On 10.08.16, the team apprehended Sanjay Singh R/o Ghaziabad, UP and Mobin Ahmed R/o Meerut, UP, while they were in possession of stolen Fortuner Car having tampered engine / chassis numbers. Both the accused persons were in process to dispose off the same, when they were nabbed by the police team. The above-said Fortuner car was found reported stolen in case e-FIR No 018483/16 dated 24.06.16 u/s 379 IPC PS Vasant Vihar.
From the search of accused Mobin Ahmed, tools used for tampering the engine / chassis numbers of the stolen cars were recovered. Both the accused persons were arrested in case e-FIR No 022521/16 u/s 379 IPC PS R K Puram.
Interrogation :
During interrogation, accused persons disclosed that they used to purchase the luxury stolen cars from Kasim Lath, Salim, Sakir and Nawab, all natives of Meerut, UP and after tampering the engine / chassis numbers of the stolen cars, they further disposed off the same by using the documents of total loss vehicles, purchased by them from Insurance Company.   In the process, they sold the scrap, but retain the documents to be used for stolen vehicles. Then they sold the vehicle in open market at market price. Accused persons further disclosed that since last 2 years, they have purchased various stolen cars from Kasim Lath, Salim, Sakir and Nawab and disposed off the same in Muradabad, Lukhnow, Meerut, Palwal (Haryana) and Jaipur (Rajasthan) after tampering the engine / chassis numbers.
During the PC remand of both the accused persons, their another associates / gang members namely Salim @ Salim Chawal, Mannan @ Monu and Kasim @ Kasim Lath were arrested and 19 stolen luxury cars were recovered at their instance.
Modus Operandi: The gang works in a planned manner and every members play specific role since theft of vehicle to its disposal.  Gang has deep roots in the Sotiganj Car Scrap Market.  Accused Salim Chawal and Kasim through their sources in Car Scrap Market, initially procure the documents of luxury accidental cars and purchase the said vehicle in cheaper prices in auction from insurance company. After getting the details / documents of such vehicles, they pass on the details of the above-said car to another members of the gang, who used to commit the theft of similar car i.e. Endeavour, Fortuner, Scorpio, etc. as per details provided to them. After committing the theft of car, the members of the gang hand over the delivery of the car to other members of the gang. The other gang members namely Mobin, tamper the engine number and chassis number of the car, as per description provided to them. Then, they affix the engine number, chassis number and registration number as per the documents of car provided to them and rest of the gang members sold the said car to bonafide buyers on market rates with some margin and also got transferred the RC of the car in the purchaser’s name.

Profile of accused persons: Mannan @ Monu, age 32 years s/o Mohd Ali R/o Village Rehpura Chaudhary, PS Ijjat Nagar, District Bareilly, UP, presently residing at H No 338, 2nd Floor, Gali No 22, Zakir Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Delhi is a school dropout.  He came to Delhi and started working in a factory of manufacturing of laces of the watches. He had hunger of earning more and fast money and to fulfill his dreams, he joined the ‘Satte Gang’ and along with the members of Satte Gang viz. Javed, Sonu Chikna and Pappu Bihari, he started committing robbery and dacoity in Delhi & NCR. In the year 2008, he along with his above-said associates committed incidents of robbery and dacoity in the area of Dhaula Kuan, Anand Vihar and Shakarpur.  In 2008, he along with his above-said associates was arrested by the Crime Branch regarding the robbery of Rs. 17 Lacs, committed by them in Dhaulakuan area and around 8 years, he remained in behind the bars. He was released from the jail one year ago and to avoid the detection of police, he started working as property dealer and remained in constant touch with his associates and started purchasing stolen luxury cars from his associate and further disposed off the same after tampering engine / chassis number.  He is previously involved in following criminal cases :

Since last 2 years, he deals in property business. Around 1 & ½ years back, he met with his associates and started purchasing stolen cars from them and further disposed off after tempering the engine / chassis numbers.

Mobin Ahmed, age 34 years s/o Farid Ahmed R/o Gali No 3, Mohalla Majid Nagar, PS Lisari Gate, Meerut, UP is a school dropout.  He is skilled in denting / panting work.  During this course, he learn how to tamper the engine / chassis numbers of the cars. Since last two years, he is tampering the engine / chassis numbers of the stolen vehicles and associated with the gang.

Salim @ Salim Chawal, age 30 years s/o Shahbuddin R/o H No 536, Jali Kathi Purva, Fateh Nagar, PS Delhi Gate, Meerut, UP is illiterate.  Earlier, he was dealing in sale and purchase of rice to run his livelihood.  Since last 5/6 years, he started purchasing old cars / scrap of cars. During this course at around 1 & ½ years back, he met with his associates and started purchasing the stolen cars and further disposed off the same.
    1. Kasim @ Kasim Lath, age 30 years s/o Saheed R/o H No 73, Jali Kothi, PS Delhi Gate, Meerut, UP is illiterate.  He works in car scrap market, Sotiganj, Meerut, UP. From last 5/6 years, he started purchasing old cars / scrap of cars. During this course at around 1 & ½ years back, he met with his associates and started purchasing the stolen cars and further disposed off the same.

Two sophisticated pistols alongwith 9 cartridges recovered. A reward of Rs 50,000/- was declared by Delhi Police for his arrest. A team of Special Cell, Northern Range, led by Insp.
