COMMUNITY POLICING IN WEST DISTRICT, DELHI POLICE

On 10th August-2016 (Wednesday) at 09:30 AM, West District Police inaugurated a comprehensive community policing initiative titled – “SEHER- A New Dawn”. The programme was unique as it combined Self-Defence Training alonwith legal awareness.  Also, for the first time, it brought together different wings of Delhi Police, viz. Traffic, Local Police, Cyber Unit etc. all on a common platform of interface with students and it was shown live on http:// www.saintmarksschool.com


          On this occasion, Shri Dependra Pathak-IPS, Jt. Commissioner of Police/South-Western Range was the Chief Guest.  Around 500 students and teachers of about 20 schools based in West District Delhi were present in it. Moreover, facility was also made available to the parents to witness online programme.


The event marked the successful conclusion of Self-Defence Training imparted to around 100 girls of St. Mark’s Girls School, Meera Bagh, New Delhi. The training emphasized on practical strategic counter-offensive. Heroic performance of the tile breaking was also performed by the girls. Apart from this, students also performed a street play on the theme “Zimmedari Mein Hissedari ”, with an appeal for public to co-operate with law enforcing agencies in eradication of social evils and to make a safe and secure society.

            To begin with,  worthy Jt. CP/SWR welcomed all the participants of the meeting and further extended his heartfelt thanks to the Director, Principal and other staff of St. Mark’s Girls School, Meera Bagh, New Delhi as well as Self-Defence Training staff and West District Police for organizing such mega event, in schools’ fraternity.
     He highly appreciated the Self-Defence Demo shown by girl students.  He educated the students to inculcate the spirit of self-discipline even from the school days.  Besides, the students must gain valuable ideas & knowledge, and  concentrate on humanity and social science, apart from regular course of study.  “With his impressive motivational speech, Shri Dependra Pathak has called upon all the students/participants to be more innovative and to bring positive changes in the society through new ideas”.

          On this occasion, the Chief Guest emphasised that the girls/women should not tolerate indecent/ inappropriate behaviour and should inform PCR No. 100 or the local police instantaneously. The present members were briefed / sensitized about their crucial role in maintaining social orderliness, peace and tranquility as well as to contain crime and criminals operating in the respective areas.      

          During interactive  session of students with senior police officers, e.g. the Hon’ble Chief Guest, (2.) Sh. B.K. Singh-Addl. CP/Traffic, (3.) DCP/WD (undersigned) (4.) Sh. Surender Kumar-DCP/SW District and Sh. Aynesh Roy-DCP/Cyber Cell, the officers answered the queries raised by the participants.

          To conclude, the Hon’ble Chief Guest emphasized that people should not have fear in meeting police. Community participation in policing is a sine qua non for effective policing. Several new schemes have been initiated and set in motion to provide police service at the door step of the public at large. These have helped in bridging the hiatus between members of the public and police and in winning their cooperation and maintenance of law and order and control of crime. The programme lasted for almost 3 hours.
