BRAVEHEART COP’S KILLERS IN THE NET

SHAHBAD DAIRY MURDER OF DELHI POLICE CONSTABLE SOLVED;

ALL THREE ACCUSED ARRESTED

In a sustained, intensive operation, a team of Special Cell led by Inspectors Govind Sharma, Sanjay Gupta and Rajesh Kumar has cracked the sensational murder case of brave heart Constable Anand who had sacrificed his life while attempting to apprehend three desperate robbers on 19/08/2016 near Samosa Chowk, Sector 5, DSIDC, Bawana, Delhi. All three accused of the crime have been arrested and the incriminating weapon of offence along with the motorcycle used in the crime and the robbed cell phone of the complainant of the case have been recovered. The arrested accused are (1) Sumit Thakran, aged 21 yrs, s/o Rajbir Singh, r/o H. No. 55, Village Bajidpur Thakran, Bawana, Delhi, (2) Rahul @ Panda, aged 21 yrs, s/o Naresh Kumar, r/o H. No. 245, Maman Pradhan Wali Gali, Village Daryapur Kalan, Delhi and (3) Sunil @ Churi Sehrawat, aged 20 yrs, s/o Kishan Sehrawat, r/o H. No. 242, Sunar Wali Gali, Village Daryapur Kalan, Delhi.

INCIDENT: On 19/08/2016, at about 2115 hrs, while Late Constable Anand Singh, posted in Chowki Number 5 of Bawana, was passing through the spot of the incident, he heard the commotion being caused when three criminals were trying to flee after robbing a lady, Ms Meena, the complainant of the FIR, who runs an egg rehri which catered to the numerous factory laborers of the area. The Late Constable saw that a young man, Mitthu, was trying to hold on to one of the robbers while one of his other two accomplices was waving a pistol in order to scare the onlookers. Without wasting a second, Late Constable Anand Singh parked his motorcycle and attempted apprehending the two criminals with his bare hands. While he successfully caught hold of one of them, the robber who was brandishing a pistol, opened fire in the air. In the ensuing panic, Mithu released the robber who was scuffling with him. The robber who had opened fire and the one released from Mitthu’s grip together entered into a fist fight with Late Constable Anand and managed to secure the release of their third accomplice who was being held by him. As the three rushed to their bike to flee, the brave heart Constable gave them a chase. Upon this, the robber armed with pistol aimed his firearm at him and shot him in the chest. As the brave heart Constable fell to the ground, the trio managed to escape on their motorcycle along with the robbed cash and mobile phone of the complainant. A case vides FIR No. 0630, dated 20/08/2016, u/ss. 302/392/394/397/34 IPC and 25/27 Arms Act was registered at PS Shahbad Dairy in this regard.

OPERATION: Seeing the gravity of the incident, several teams of Delhi Police were pressed into action. Various teams of the Special Cell also took up the task of identifying and apprehending the culprits behind this gruesome murder. Over the next week, in a sustained initiative, more than 136 budding criminals in the age group of 18-21 years who were reported operating in Outer and North West Delhi areas were shortlisted for on ground verification. Quick technical surveillance was mounted and several sources were deployed to elicit intelligence. Around 80 dossiers of active criminals and 150 recent jail released criminals were studied in order to gather tangible clues about the perpetrators of the crime. The relevant footages of over 100 CCTV cameras found functioning in the wider area covering the spot of the incident were analyzed. The efforts paid fruit when on 26/08/2016, at about 1800 hrs, while the team was in the area of Bawana for ground verifications, it received a specific information that one Sumit, who was reportedly involved in the crime, had gone outstation and was expected to arrive in a couple of hours. The team immediately called for backup support and started scouting the area for strategic deployment. Sometime after 2000 hrs, the team, which had the particulars of accused Sumit Thakran as collected over the preceding days, managed to spot him on foot near the Sarvodaya Girls School, Main Bawana Road. In a swift and professional operation, accused Sumit Thakran was apprehended. Upon his cursory search, a sophisticated pistol was recovered tucked along his waist. He was interrogated and being confronted with the evidence gathered over the previous days, he disclosed of his involvement in the crime and also the details of his other two accomplices. Accordingly, after apprehending accused Sumit, the team moved quickly and positioned themselves in the Daryapur Kalan Village. In an overnight operation, accused Rahul was picked up from his address mentioned above and the motorcycle used in the crime i.e. Hero Splendor Plus bearing number DL-11-SG-9211, which was robbed a couple of days prior to the murder by these accused, was recovered at the instance of accused Rahul which was parked at an isolated spot near his residence. Following up on this momentum, a raid was conducted at the residence of accused Sunil and he was apprehended and the robbed cell phone belonging to the complainant was recovered at his instance kept hidden in his Maruti Eeco car. In early morning hours of 27/08/2016, the team returned to Lodhi Colony with the three accused and the seized case properties.

PROFILES & INVOLVEMENTS: During their preliminary interrogation, the arrested accuseds have revealed their earlier crimes/involvements. Having no gainful occupation, they wanted to earn quick money by committing a spate of robberies. Just two days after this dastardly crime, the accused again committed a daring robbery at a Mother Dairy booth in the area of PS Begumpur. On the day of the incident, after robbing the complainant, as they were leaving the spot, they were confronted with the brave heart Constable Anand. Being committed to the world of crime, in a cruel and pre-meditated fashion, accused Sumit, with full support of accused Rahul and Sunil, shot dead the brave heart Constable and escaped from the scene of the crime. However, their run with the law came to an end when the Special Cell managed to apprehend them after this clinical operation.     

Accused Sumit Thakran has studied up to 12th standard. After school, he worked as a private driver for about two years. Later, he came in touch with local criminals and being deeply influenced by their affluence and styles, started committing crimes. So far, his involvement in the following cases has been ascertained:

Accused Sunil Sehrawat @ Churri has studied up to 10th standard. After leaving school, he started working as a school bus driver in GD Goenka School, Sector 9, Rohini. While he was a juvenile, he, along with present co-accused Rahul, had attempted to murder one Atul @ Jacky. So far, his involvement in the following cases has been ascertained:
