Inter State Illegal kidney sell-purchase racket busted

A Racket of illegal sale and purchase of kidney of gullible person for illegal transplant has been busted by Crime Branch of Delhi Police in which helpless families were induced and charged huge amount of money with the promise to complete necessary documentations and formalities for the smooth transplant operation.

A team of officers of Inter State Cell, Crime Branch led by ACP Sanjay Sehrawat and consisting of Insp Narendra Chahar, SIs Gurmeet Singh, Narendra Sehrawat and Kavita, HCs Verendra, Bijendra, Raj singh  Cts Praveen, Ajay, Ranbir, Rahul, under the supervision of Sh. Madhur Verma, DCP/Crime Branch and Sh. Shibesh Singh, DCP/Crime (HQ & AHTU)  was constituted to bust the racket involved in illegal sale & purchase of kidney being run in the several states.  Four persons including one Jayant @ Rahne Sahoo who appeared to be one of the key persons operating the racket, have been arrested so far.

FACTS OF THE CASE:-

A young boy  namely Jaideep Sharma S/o Shankar Lal Sharma  R/o Village & Post Dhadiya Ramapura, Via Ringesh  Distt. Sikar (Rajasthan) Age-23 years, received a call from one person namely Imtiaz who later introduced him to Jayant Sahoo, calling with a fake name of Rahul Sahoo, asking him to sell his kidney.  He was promised Rs. 4 Lakhs.  Thereafter, on 13 April 2107 Jaideep came to Crime Branch office along with a press reporter of News 24 Channel namely Rahul Prakash to expose the racket.  A sting operation (having Audio and Video recording of the culprits) spread over a month and with a recording of over 200 hours was carried out by the team of Crime Branch along with the channel.  During the several meetings held, it was revealed that Jayant Sahoo had arranged for a new identity to Jaideep to full fill the requirement/guidelines of the hospital as per the rule.  Moreover, he got prepared all the forged documents in the name of one Mr. Polepeddy Snayna Podma Phani Kumar having photograph of Jaideep.  During the sting operations, it was revealed that   transaction of Rs. 30 lakhs took placed between the relatives of the patient and the agent Jayant Sahoo to arrange for kidney donor.  One lady namely Surekha Pandya, resident of Cuttack, Odisha who was also found involved in the racket and used to provide the logistics to the patient and the kidney donor has also been arrested.   The requisite medical tests were conducted at Batra Hospital on the basis of forged documents in the name of Mr. Polepeddy Snayna Podma Phani Kumar.  All fake documents like Aadhar Card, Election Identity Card, Passbook of State bank of India have been prepared in this regard to show that the complainant is one of the family members of the patient.  The mandatory provisions under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 like the interview  was held  before the Internal Committee of Doctors which approved his case after asking  relevant questions, despite the fact that the reply of some questions were given  deliberately wrong.  The date of transplantation of kidney was fixed for 25.05.2017 at Batra Hospital. But after collecting relevant evidence, a case vide FIR No. 77/17 U/s 18/19 & 20 of Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994 and 468/467/471/120B IPC was got registered on the complaint of Jaideep.  During the course of investigation several raids were conducted including at Batra Hospital and several relevant documents have been seized.  The following four accused have been arrested in Delhi so far.
