Eastern Range of Crime Branch unearthed an IPL online betting racket

Nine accused arrested from a five Star Hotel in Delhi. 10 mobile phones, 3 laptops & some written material regarding bet has been recovered. 7 book numbers (Mobile phones) recovered, which were being used for booking the bets from clients/punters. 2 Local line numbers/ Dibba (Mobile phones) recovered, which were being used for getting the updated/current rate of bet.

      Team of Eastern Range, Crime Branch unearthed an IPL betting racket that was being run from a five star Hotel of North West Delhi and arrested nine persons namely Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender Kumar, Nitin Harjani, Nikhil Goswami @ Nannu, Amit Kumar Dhingra, Sumit Sharma, Rajesh Jain & Naveen Kumar. 10 mobile phones, 3 laptops, 7 book numbers (Mobile phones), 2 Local line numbers/Dibba and some note sheets being used for booking of bets were recovered.

 Brief facts:

      Crime Branch was receiving inputs that Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender along with their associates are involved in running IPL betting racket. Team members and informers were deployed to gather information. On 21/5/17, specific input was received that Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender and their associates will be carrying their betting racket from 5 Star Hotel of North West Delhi. They have also booked a room on 21/5/17 for carrying betting racket for the final match of IPL being played between Mumbai India and Pune. Immediately, these facts were brought in the notice of senior officers. . As per the directions of the senior officers, raiding team consisting of ACP Pankaj Singh, Insp. Sanjay Neolia, SI Ram Kishan, ASI’s Murlidhar, Jagdish Pal, Kushal Pal, Pramod, HC’s Balik Ram, Sanjeev, Sudhakar, and Ct. Rohit was constituted, under the supervision of ACP Anand Kumar Mishra. A raid was conducted at Crown Plaza, Rithala, Rohini and nine persons namely Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender Kumar, Nitin Harjani, Nikhil Goswami @ Nannu, Amit Kumar Dhingra, Sumit Sharma, Rajesh Jain & Naveen Kumar were found running betting racket by using mobile phones, and laptops and live cricket match was running on one LED screen.  All the nine accused persons were arrested and 10 mobile phones, 3 laptops, 7 book numbers (Mobile phones), 2 Local line numbers/Dibba and some note sheets being used for booking of bets were seized from the spot.  A case vides FIR No.74/17 u/s 3 & 4 Gambling Act was registered at PS Crime Branch and investigation taken up.

 Interrogation & disclosure:

      During interrogation, accused persons disclosed that Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra @ Sunny & Jitender are the kingpins. Kunal Miglani used to run the betting racket with Pankaj Garg, whereas Jitender Kumar @ Jeetu runs the racket with his brother in Law namely Nikhil @ nannu. Sumit Kalra @ @ Sunny runs the racket with his associates Rajesh Jain, Naveen, Nitin, Sumit Sharma and Amit. Kunal, Sumit & Jitender are having two book numbers (numbers on which ball by ball betting is done), three numbers and two numbers, respectively, which are used for receiving calls regarding bets from their clients. The clients are also called punters in local language. Kunal was using one local number, whereas Sumit and Jitender were sharing one book numbers which was used for talking with their channels and getting updated bet rates. Other apprehended persons were assisting their heads and sharing commissions in the profits. The betting was done completely through phones and the money betted (profit or loss) are taken or delivered to the punters on the next day. The betting racket is running on assurance. Apprehended persons are involved in the betting initially use to bet their money in the cricket match and later on in order to earn quick and easy money, they started their own betting network. Kunal Miglani was initially working with Pankaj Garg and getting salary for it. Pankaj Garg introduced him to Sonu, who provides him the latest update of the bet rates through local line phone number. Sumit Kalra and Jitender disclosed that they were receiving latest updates of bet rates from Sunil through local line phone number. Accused Kunal Miglani has previously been arrested in a case registered vide FIR No. 118/10 dated 11/9/10, u/s 420/468/471IPC at PS Tuglak Road.

4. Nitin Harjani S/o Late Sh. Tulshi Dass Harjani R/o F-3/110, Sector-15, Rohini Delhi, Age-38 Years.
5. Nikhil Gidwani S/o Kanaihya Lal Gidwani R/o Flat No. 422, Sanskriti Apartment Sector-28, Rohini Delhi, Age- 23 years.
6. Amit Kumar Dhingra S/o Ram Prakash R/o H. No. 112, Pocket-17, Sector-22 Rohini Delhi, Age 32 Years.
7. Sumit Sharma S/o Prahalad Sharma R/o H. No. 94, Shivam Apartment Sector-15, Rohini Delhi, Age-32 years.
8. Rajesh Jain s/o Late Sh. Vimal Chand Jain R/o G-4/53, Sector-11, Rohini Delhi, Age 46 Years.
9. Naveen Kumar s/o Ganga Deen R/OA-12, Budh Vihar, Phase-2, Shyam Colony, Delhi,  Age 29 years.
