TRAFIC SENTINELS REWARDED

Two little girl students, Saloni Bhatla (6th Class) of Oxford Public School, Vikas Puri and Akansha Singh (7th Class) of Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, Vias Puri, winners of different competitions in the Traffic Summer Camp held earlier this year, drew out the name of the lucky winner of the Traffic Sentinel Scheme of Delhi Police in a prize distribution ceremony held today (18/10/16).  The winner Colonel Biraj Sahay won the bumper prize of Maruti Alto car.  Apart from this, the top scorers among the Traffic Sentinels received special prizes.  Commissioner of Police, Delhi Sh. Alok Kumar Verma gave away the prizes.


Sh. Sandeep Goel, Spl. CP/Traffic gave a brief presentation on the Traffic Sentinel Scheme.  The Traffic Sentinel Scheme was launched by Delhi Traffic Police on 3/12/2015.  In this Scheme, one has to download a Mobile App through which one can participate in reporting traffic violations by capturing photos/videos on the mobile phone and earn reward points.  More than 7000 persons have registered in this scheme so far and reported as many as 1,31,467 violations through this app.

For today’s prize distribution and lucky draw, the cut off date was kept as 30.06.2016.  Ms. Kavita Tholia was declared Sentinel # 1, having earned maximum 8057 points (as on 30.6.2016).  She was rewarded with a Hero Scooter (sponsored by Hero Moto Corp).  The second prize of Hero Motor Cycle (also sponsored by Hero Moto Corp) was given to Mr. Ravi Prakash Sharma, who accumulated 7848 points. The third prize was awarded to Mr. Mayank Tyagi (4078 points) who got Air Tickets for couple for (Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi) for two days at Hotel Ramada, Juhu, Mumbai sponsored by Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO).

Lucky Draw: There was a lucky draw in which all the Traffic Sentinels who had accumulated 50 or more points (as on 30.6.2016) were eligible.  There were 239 such Traffic Sentinels entitled for the lucky draw.  Colonel Biraj Sahay, Traffic Sentinel with 63 points, was declared winner in the lucky draw and won the bumper prize of Maruti Alto car sponsored by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.   As Colonel Sahay was not present in the function, the prize was collected by Ms. Aslam Khan, DCP/Traffic on his behalf.

The Commissioner of Police, Delhi congratulated the winners and thanked the Sentinels for their effort and positive contribution towards the society.  He said that adherence to traffic rules is a matter of good habit and reflects how law abiding citizens we are.  He emphasized that Traffic Sentinels can greatly help in reducing the visible traffic offences like driving without helmet, triple riding, driving without seatbelt etc., which are always an eye sore to others.  He requested the Traffic Sentinels to motivate others including their family members and friends also to join this scheme.  This will have a multiplying effect and will greatly contribute towards better road discipline and reducing the number of road accidents.  He also thanked the sponsors of the scheme who contributed the prizes for this scheme under their Corporate Soscial Responsibility.

The prize distribution ceremony was followed by an interactive session in which various suggestions including those for improving the App were discussed.  This interactive session with Commissioner of Police, Delhi was followed by another one chaired by Ms. Garima Bhatnagar, Joint CP/Traffic.
