LOOKING FOR A MAID? REMINDER TO GET POLICE VERIFICATION DONE

  • PLACEMENT AGENCY RUNNING A RACKET OF HOUSE THIEVES BUSTED.

With the arrest of a husband-wife duo, the staff of PS Vasant Kunj (North), South District has busted a network of trained house thieves who have committed a spate of house thefts in posh colonies of Delhi and in the process, worked out a case of house theft committed from the house of a reputed diamond trader. In a lightening operation, stolen properties including diamond jewellery and electronic items, worth over Rs. 80 Lacs have been recovered within 48 hours of the theft.

INCIDENT:

On 19/03/2017, a complaint was received from Ms. Nishu Tripathi, r/o Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, wherein it was reported that she along with her husband had gone out of their home on 19/03/17 and after they returned, they found that their diamond jewellery worth Rs. 50 lacs had been stolen. It was further reported that they had hired a maid called Manisha, a day prior to the incident and she was also missing. In this regard, a case vide e-FIR No. 181/17, u/s 380 IPC, PS Vasant Kunj (North) was registered and investigation was taken up.

INVESTIGATION:

In order to work out the case, a team comprising of SI Kuldeep, ASI Chattarpal, HC Vikas, Ct. Karambir, led by Insp. Gagan Bhaskar, SHO/V K North under the supervision of Sh. K P Kukrety, ACP/Vasant Vihar was formed.

Acting quickly, the team analysed the cell phone number reportedly belonging to the missing maid. It was found switched off. However, a quick analysis of the CDRs revealed that the missing maid was frequently visiting a particular area and accordingly, sources were alerted. The sources located another maid servant who informed that she knew the missing maid, albeit with a different name and that she had recommended her to the complainant of the case for employment as a domestic maid. However, this trail went cold as this maid did not know the correct address, present or permanent, of the missing maid and had met her only casually on a couple of occasions while going to and returning from her place of employment. It was learnt that the missing maid had come to Delhi only a couple of months ago. When the placement agencies working in the area were searched to obtain any clue, it was learnt that over the past few months, many such agencies had opened and shut shops after being functional for a short period. A search for these closed’ placement agencies revealed that most of them were being run by a set of same male and female persons. Soon, the deployed informers provided some phone numbers which were being used by the operatives of the closed placement agencies. Monitoring of these numbers revealed a technical identity whose movements and locations approximated the movements and locations of the missing maid. Soon, the operation yielded result and within 48 hours, the team managed to apprehend the husband wife duo just before they were to leave Delhi with the booty from the area of Nizamuddin.

ARRESTED ACCUSED:

  1. Manisha, aged 35 years, w/o Vijay Singh, r/o H. No. 51-C, Room No. 302, Village Nangli Rajapur, East Nizamuddin, New Delhi

  1. Vijay Singh, aged 43 years, s/o Prem Chand, R/o H. No. 51-C, Room No. 302, Village Nangli Rajapur, East Nizamuddin, New Delhi.  Both are permanent residents of Lungai Basti, Ved Vyas, Rourkela, District Sundergarh, Odissa.

MODUS OPERANDI:

The interrogation of arrested accused has revealed a shocking modus operandi. The arrested accused disclosed that since 2005, they had started and closed various placement agencies beginning with Kalka Maid Services’ at Kilokari, Ashram, New Delhi. In each of such venture, they used to send chosen members of their gang as maid servants to prospective clients. The maids so sent, including the present accused Manisha, would do away with the expensive jewellery and cash from such clients’ houses. After every planned and good heist, they would close their shop and return to their native place in Odissa to lie low for some time. They would return to Delhi with a fresh set of recruit thieves in the garb of maid servants and open a shop in a new locality. Once settled, they would scout for the local chowkidars, guards, washermen, car-washers etc. who form the underbelly of affluent localities and soon, would gain knowledge about prospective clients who were looking for domestic maids. Thus, the cycle kept running unabated. Following the same modus operandi, in August 2016, they had committed a theft in Ashok Vihar of North West Delhi and after the same, had found the present victim in posh Vasant Kunj of South Delhi.

In the instant case, accused Manisha got to know that the domestic maid working with the present complainant had left work, a week ago. Getting to know the profile of the victim’s husband as a diamond trader, they offered services as a domestic maid through a casual acquaintance and within a day of being employed, decamped with the valuables. The employer had not insisted upon police verification which made their task easy.
