4th Meeting of the LG’s Task Force Team

In order to decongest South Delhi corridors, the 4th Meeting of the LG’s Task Force Team No.4 was held on 23.06.2017 in the Conference Hall, Office of DCP/South District, Hauz Khas, Delhi under the chairmanship of Vijay Singh, IPS, DCP/Traffic-Southern Range.  In this Task Force meeting representatives/nodal officers of NDMC, PWD, DTC, DMRC, DJB, BSES, Forest Dept, AIIMS, Delhi Traffic Police, MCD, etc were present to discuss the traffic issues on the selected corridors.  The selected corridors were (i) Aurobindo Marg from INA to Andheria More, (ii) Neela Gumbad corridor from Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Border (iii) Savtri flyover from Modi Mill to Savitri Flyover (iv) Mehrauli – Badarpur corridor including IGNOU Road.  In this meeting the progress on the identified bottlenecks, remedial measures, etc. were discussed.  So far the work of installing iron grills on the Central Verge on Aurobindo Marg till Anuvart Marg ‘T’ Point is completed.  The DTC bus stop causing congestion at Andheria More & Bus stop on INA Market have been removed.  Construction of FOB at Aali Village traffic signal on Mathura Road has also been approved.  The progress on transplanting the identified tree on Aurobindo Marg & other selected point were discussed.  Many proposals like shifting bus stand, widening of roads, cutting of Central Verge, creation of FOB’s, errecting iron grills on Central Verge, etc. were reviewed.  The water logging problem in certain stretches were also raised by the Chairman and the Task Force members were directed to be more alert and quick in their response to avoid traffic jams causing inconvenience to the public.

In order to ensure smooth and trouble free movement of Traffic, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had constituted Task Forces on the selected corridors that need improvement in any area viz. design, road engineering, infrastructure, enforcement, traffic, etc.  Out of the 28 high priority corridors, 09 corridors falls in the area of South Delhi.  Each task force is headed by DCP/Traffic of the concerned Range. So far in Southern Range three meetings have been held with all the representatives of the Task Force.  All the stakeholders were briefed about the objective of the Task Force i.e. to decongest the identified corridors by taking up immediate and short/long term remedial measures for decongesting the corridors.  In these meetings wide range of solutions ranging from encroachment removal, widening/renovation of road stretch, restructuring/redesigning of intersection, installation of iron grills on the central verge, construction of FOB/underpass/subway for the movement of pedestrians, shifting/aligning bus stops, changing bus routes, removal/shifting of trees/other obstructions, etc. have been explored.  The Task Force members had been assigned the tasks pertaining to their concerned departments and were advised to push forward the same on priority.
