USED TO CHEAT INNOCENT PEOPLE FOR PROVIDING GOVT. JOB

NOTORIOUS CHEAT ARRESTED : USED TO CHEAT INNOCENT PEOPLE FOR PROVIDING GOVT. JOB : INVOLVED IN EIGHT CASES OF CHEATING : BAD CHARACTER OF PS IP ESTATE

With the arrest of a notorious cheat Jojo Mathew aged 50 years s/o P.G. Mathew r/o Qtr. No. 333, Type-II, MAMC Campus, Mirdard Lane, Delhi, the staff of Police Post LNJP, PS IP Estate, Central District has solved two cases of cheating of Police Station I.P. Estate. The accused has cheated several gullible people of their hard earned money by alluring to provide Govt. job.

INCIDENT: Complainant Smt. Shinimol P.George r/o Mayur Vihar Phase-III, Delhi reported that on 23.07.15, she along with her husband Shri Jobin went to Delhi Nursing Council situated at MAMC for registration of her nursing degree. At the same time, one Keralite person Mr. Jojo Mathew met there who introduced himself as a Govt. employee at LNJP Hospital. He told that he was in good touch with Delhi Govt. officials. He also told that his wife Ms. Joemol who is working in Radiology Department of LNJP Hospital, was also having good relations with the administrative wing of LNJP Hospital. He invited the complainant to his residential quarter at MAMC Campus. When complainant and her husband reached there, they were cordially attended by his wife Ms. Joemol and their daughters.  Then, Jojo Mathew induced the complainant that he could easily arranged a Govt. job in LNJP hospital as a Staff Nurse for her on adhoc basis by depositing a security amount of Rs. 1.5 lacs. Both of them insisted the complainant that the security amount is required to be deposited in LNJP Hospital immediately for this job. The complainant arranged this amount by borrowing from his father and by mortgaging ornaments at Manappuram Finance Ltd., Mayur Vihar Phase 3, Delhi and handed over this money to Jojo Mathew at his residence while his wife Ms. Joemol presented herself in Staff Nurse uniform due to which the complainant was of absolute belief that somebody residing in Govt. quarter having Govt. job would not cheat her. Since then, she and her husband were in regular touch with them but they were pretending that the matter is pending due to some administrative reasons and it will be sorted out shortly. Recently, the complainant came to know that Jojo Mathew and his wife Ms. Joemol have cheated several innocent people with similar modus operandi and they were involved in several cheating cases. On her complaint, a case vide FIR No. 99/2017 u/s 420/120-B IPC & 13(1)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was registered at PS IP Estate and investigation was taken up.

TEAM AND INVESTIGATION

During investigation, it was revealed that Jojo Mathew and his wife Jeomol had cheated several gullible women with similar modus operandi and several cases of cheating were found registered against him in different police stations of Delhi. He is also a history sheeter of Police Station I.P. Estate and evading his arrest in another cheating case registered vide FIR No. 483/14 PS IP Estate.

Considering the sensitivity of the case, a team comprising of Inspr. Ravinder Malik SHO/IP Estate, SI Lalit Kumar I/C PP LNJP, SI Manoj Kumar, Ct. Dinesh and Ct. Yogesh was formed under the supervision of Shri Amit Kaushik, ACP/Kamla Market.

The police team was sent to the house of accused persons where their daughters were present who informed that their mother and father had gone to Kerala due to death of their grandmother. Meanwhile, it was revealed that Ms. Jeomol had applied for anticipatory bail in Sessions Court. It transpired that both the accused persons are present in Delhi and absconding themselves from police. The bail application was rejected but she further applied for anticipatory bail in Hon’ble High Court of Delhi which was granted. Her husband Jojo Mathew was still absconding. The police team conducted several raids at his possible hideouts but no clue could be ascertained. Further, sources were deployed and local intelligence was gathered and it was revealed that Jojo Mathew would come to his house to meet his children. Subsequently, a trap was laid by the police team in plain clothes. In the evening of 31.05.17, he came to his house but due to his illness, he was taken to LNJP Hospital by the police staff where he was got admitted. However, the police team remained deployed outside the hospital due to the apprehension that he might abscond after getting discharged from the hospital. In the afternoon of 01.06.17, Jojo Mathew was discharged and he was arrested.

INTERROGATION

During interrogation, it was revealed that he had cheated a number of persons by alluring them to provide Govt. job or job in foreign country. He used to target the innocent Keralite women who were in search of job or came to Delhi Nursing Council for registration of nursing degree. He persuaded them by impersonating himself with different identities i.e. an officer of CBI or working in Govt. Hospital/Delhi Nursing Council/Delhi Govt. etc. and he had good relations with Govt. officers. Then, he invited them at his Govt. accommodation in MAMC campus where his wife Ms. Jeomol presented herself in Staff Nurse Uniform to convince the gullible people about their genuineness. After taking Rs. 1 lac to 1.5 lacs, he started pretending that their matter is under process.

In the present case, when the accused persons came to know that another case of cheating has been registered against them, they escaped from their house by pretending their children that they were going to Kerala due to death of mother of Ms. Jeomol and they hid themselves in New Friends Colony area.

PROFILE OF ACCUSED JOJO MATHEW

Accused Jojo Mathew is semi literate. He is having 3/4 taxis which are plying in Mahipalpur area, Delhi. He is fond of drinking and gambling. His wife Ms. Jeomol is working as Staff Nurse in LNJP Hospital since 1994 and they are residing in Govt. accommodation in MAMC campus allotted to Ms. Jeomol. He used to roam around Delhi Nursing Council in search of soft target.
