A GANG OF EXTORTIONISTS APPREHENDED

• USED “HONEY TRAP” TO LURE THE VICTIMS.
• EXTORTED RS.15 LACS FROM ONE VICTIM.
• ONE CONSTABLE OF DELHI POLICE POSTED IN PS BURARI ALSO ARRESTED.
• ONE OF THE EXTORTIONISTS IS RUNNING A WEEKLY NEWS LETTER “ADARSH BHARAT TIMES”.

Crime Branch has apprehended a gang of extortionists, who used to lay a honey trap and then extort money from the targets. The arrested persons are: -

1. Krishna Nand Bhat (48 yrs) s/o Shiv Dutt Bhat r/o E5/1, Pardhan Enclave, Burari, Delhi.
2. Jeet (28 yrs) s/o Late Mahinder r/o 769/14 B–Block, Baba Colony, Burari, Delhi.
3. Tabassum (28 yrs) w/o Arif Khan r/o Mohalla Mamando, Shahjahanpur, Distt. Shahjahanpur, UP.
4. Nidhi Singh (27 yrs) d/o Vijay Bhan Singh r/o 147/K 30 Vill. Burari, Godhi, Delhi.
5. Constable Pradeep (26 yrs) s/o Jai Veer Singh r/o Vill Farmana, distt. Sonepat, Haryana.
6. Ankita@ Aradhana Sharma d/o Ram Niwas Sharma r/o H.No.129, Street No.9, Parkash Vihar, Karawal Nagar, Delhi.

INFORMATION, TEAM AND OPERATION: - Complainant Pawan, who works as a clerk in ESI Hospital, Rohini, Sec-16 complained that a lady started calling him on his mobile and lured him to meet her at her room in Burari. Initially reluctant, he fell into trap and on 17/11/16 he want to Bengali Colony, Burari to meet her. Once he entered the room, she made him feel at ease and both started conversing with each other. Suddenly, two persons posing as a police man and a lady reporter entered the room and started beating him and he got frightened. He got even more frightened and scared when they said that they were going to inform his family about his wrong doings. Finally, they demanded Rs.25 lacs from him to let him go. He arranged money from his friends and relatives and ended up paying Rs.15 lacs for his immediate release. He was required to pay another Rs.10 lacs later on. He finally mustered courage and decided to report the matter to the police.

    A dedicated team of Central Range Crime Branch started to work upon the inputs received from the complainant. HC Shahir Khan, with his technical skills and expertise, was able to establish the true identity of the accused persons and zeroed in on one Reena as part of this gang. On 18/12/16, HC Shahir Khan received an information that Reena@ Tabussum would be travelling to Shahjahanpur by Kashi Vishawanath Express train from New Delhi Rly. Station to attend the marriage of her sister.  The information was shared with the senior officers and a team led by ACP Sandeep Lamba, consisting of Insp. Ashish kumar Dubey, SI Vineet,  ASIs Ajeet, Ajay, Joginder, HCs Sudhir, Rakesh, Shahir khan, Mool Chand, Praveen, Jitender, Rajiv Tyagi, Cts Karnal, Praveen and Nishant was constituted under the supervision of DCP Rajesh Deo and under overall guidance of Addl.CP. K.K.Vyas and a trap was laid. On receiving the pre appointed signal, Reena @ Tabussum was apprehended. When interrogated, she led to the arrest of all the accused persons.

When subjected to sustained interrogation, it was also revealed that a Constable of the Delhi Police Pradeep Kumar posted at PP Jharoda, PS Burari was also involved in this racket. In the present case, the mobile number of the complainant was provided by Constable Pradeep Kumar as the complainant happened to be his brother-in-law. Pradeep knew that the complainant is well off and if trapped, he could be extorted of a handsome amount. Out of the extorted amount, Rs.6 lac was kept by the Constable as his share of the booty.

    He further revealed that Krishna Nand Bhat is a reporter and runs his own weekly news letter by the name of ‘Adarsh Bharat Times’. He prints 2000 to 3000 copies of the weekly newspaper after subscribing advertisements from the local businessmen & politicians and used to circulate the weekly in the Govt. Offices.

PROFILE: - Krishna Nand Bhat was born in Vill. Chandni, Distt. Champawat, Uttarakhand. His father was Subedar in Army. He did his schooling from Uttarakhand and after graduation, he came to Delhi and started working as Manager in an Export/Import firm. However, to earn quick and easy money, he entered into extortion racket.

1. Jeet was born in Burari, Delhi.  He passed 12th standard from a School in Delhi. Thereafter, he started working as a driver but for greed of quick and easy money, he entered into an extortion racket.
2. Tabassum @ Reena was born in Shahjahanpur, UP.  She has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She was working as a labourer in a printing factory but for greed of quick and easy money, she entered into extortion racket.
3. Nidhi Singh was born in Basti, UP. She has 3 brothers and her father was a property dealer. She did her schooling from her village in district Basti, UP and dropped out while pursuing her graduation. Thereafter, she started working as an Anganwari Worker in Delhi but for greed of quick and easy money, she entered into extortion racket.
4. Constable Pradeep was born in Vill. Farmana, Haryana. They are 2 brothers. His father is a farmer at his native village. He passed 12th standard from his village. Thereafter, he joined Delhi Police as constable in 2010. Initially, he was posted in 1st Bn. Thereafter, he was posted in Burari, Delhi but for want of quick and easy money, he entered into extortion racket.
5. Ankita@ Aradhana Sharma was born in Karawal Nagar, Delhi. Her father was retired From MTNL. She did her schooling from a Govt. school in Delhi. She passed her graduation from Delhi University. Thereafter, she started running an educational institute for typing, shorthand etc. in Sant Nagar, Delhi but for greed of quick and easy money, she entered into the extortion racket.

All the accused persons have been arrested under the appropriate sections of the law. They have extorted more than a dozen victims but such victims do not come forward owing to shame factor as it may destroy their family and reputation.
