arrest of MLA Okhla Amanatullah Khan

On 19th July, 2016, a case was registered vide FIR number 726/16 u/s 509,506 IPC at PS Jamia Nagar in which complainant stated that she called MLA Okhla  Amanatullah Khan to complain about electricity problem in her area on 10th July, 2016. She stated that she received a very casual response from the MLA and so she went to his residence in Batla House. She alleged that a person emerged out of the house and used abusive language against her and also threatened to get her raped and burn her alive. She further stated that the person also said that these are the words of Amanatullah Khan.
Subsequent to the registration of case, statement of complainant u/s 164 CrPC was recorded by a Metropolitan Magistrate on 22nd July, 2016. Complainant alleged that Amanatullah Khan and few others in a car tried to run her over near Ashoka Park, New Friends Colony. She also stated that a bike tried to hit her on 22nd July when she was on her way to the court to get her statement recorded. Based on her statement, Section 308 IPC was added on 22nd July, 2016.
Complainant repeatedly approached the police saying she is feeling unsafe. She was very aggrieved that action is not being taken on her complaint and repeatedly stated the incident of trying to run over her by a car and threats extended to her by Amanatullah Khan. She gave a complaint in the office of DCP, South-East on 23rd July, 2016. She also gave a complaint in PS New Friends Colony on 23rd July, 2016 vide DD number 13A. On the morning of 24th July, 2016, she came to PS Sarita Vihar and gave a complaint that she is being repeatedly threatened and pressured ever since she has registered the case against Amanatullah Khan. She stated that she lives alone with her children and is feeling very unsafe and that a ‘sting’ video is being circulated by accused person in order to defame her. She even threatened to commit suicide.
On 24th July, 2016, MLA Okhla Amanatullah Khan was briefly interrogated and arrested. He was produced before the court of Hon’ble duty MM in Saket court complex who remanded him to one day police custody. Further investigation is being carried out in view of the FIR and threats received by the complainant.
