DELHI POLICE - INDIGO LAUNCH AAKHRI AHUTI

IndiGo to Ferry Human Remains of Delhi's underprivileged North Eastern people Free of Cost.

NEW DELHI, 12 January, 2017 - The office of Sh. Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Police (SPUWAC, IGI Airport) and Nodal Officer Delhi Police North East unit, in co-partnership with IndiGo launched a service - Aakhi Ahuti.

AAKHIRI AHUTI is a humanitarian initiative by IndiGo taken in cooperation with Delhi Police to transport/carry the Human Remains (HUM) of the deceased from the Northeast free of cost to the North Eastern destinations on IndiGo's network.

In the past, there were several incidents where people from North Eastern states residing in Delhi died. They were buried or cremated in Delhi NCR without their kith or kin being present. Due to financial constraints, relatives of the deceased were unable to take the body back to their native place. This service has been launched to facilitate transporting the Humain Remains of the deceased of these very underprivileged people from Northeast. Under this service, it is only on the recommendation from the office of Delhi Police's Northeast unit, IndiGo will ferry the human remains on a case to case basis.

While announcing the service, Mr. Aditya Ghosh, President and Whole Time Director, IndiGo said, "I personally believe that it is our honour to co-partner with Delhi Police to take the underprivileged domiciles of North eastern states back on their final journey." "In 2004, IndiGo's maiden flight was to Guwahati and Imphal. This is one of our many ways to give back to the North East part of our network," he added.

Mr. Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner, Delhi Police said, “We are humbled by IndiGo’s gesture to extend support to the affected people from North-East India. More than 12 lakh people are working in different organized and unorganized sectors like BPOs, malls, private companies, hospitals, hotel industry, and as security guards, to mention some, from the North Eastern states. Ferrying human remains from Delhi to Northeast by air is a costly affair." "For the underprivileged people from Northeast, this service is a great relief from both financial and emotional point of views," he added.

IndiGo currently flies to five cities in the North East, from Delhi which include Agartala Singerbhil Airport, Dibrugarh Chabwa Airport, Dimapur Airport, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoi Airport Guwahati and Imphal Municipal Airport.
