2 PRANKSTERS APPREHENDED

  • YOUTUBE (GOOGLE) ENCOURAGING SUCH OBSCENE ACTIVITIES.
Crime Branch has apprehended notorious prankster ‘The Crazy Sumit’ and his associate, who uploaded infamous kissing girls video on YouTube. The alleged persons Sumit Kumar Singh (20 yrs) and Satyajeet Kadian (25 yrs) has been apprehended. 2 laptops, one video camera, wireless mikes have been recovered from them. Both are students of BCA at World College of Engineering and Management, Farrukh Nagar, Gurugram.
BRIEF FACTS: -
While going through internet, Cyber Crime Cell, came across a video posted on YouTube wherein one person going by the online name ‘Crazy Sumit’ had uploaded a video in which he was seen indulging in an obscene act of kissing unsuspecting women in a public place. The said ‘Crazy Sumit’ had posted this video on YouTube and also on his Facebook page. The obscene video was copied and also posted on YouTube by other YouTube accounts. On this, a case vide FIR No. 10/2017 u/s 67 IT Act r/w 354 IPC was registered at PS EOW and investigation was taken up.
Cyber Cell of Crime Branch was tasked to nab the accused. During investigation, details of his YouTube account ‘Crazy Sumit’ were obtained. Apart from this, details of his other social accounts i.e. Facebook, Twitter were also obtained. Besides, profiling of the suspect was done by Cyber Crime Team from various social media websites and a video was found uploaded by ‘Crazy Sumit’ regarding a party thrown by You Tube to promote and encourage such pranksters in a posh restaurant titled ’38 Barracks’ in Connaught Place. It is also revealed that You Tube has been organizing various parties and day seminars to encourage such activities by the pranksters. These type of parties are being hosted by a company namely Menaki Communication based in Gurgaon and Mumbai on behalf of You Tube and Google.
TEAM & OPERATION: -
From the details obtained, it was revealed that the accused resides in the area of Gurgaon. In order to apprehend the said accused, a team laid by ACP Sandeep Lamba, consisting of Insp. Pawan Kumar, Insp. Vishal Khanwalkar, SIs Rohit Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Ct. Kapil Dev and W/Ct. Shehlata under the supervision of DCP Bhisham Singh and overall guidance of Addl.CP K.K. Vyas. A raid was conducted and the said Crazy Sumit namely Sumit Kumar Singh @ Monu s/o Lallan Prasad Singh r/o H.No.5/2, Gali No.1, Sector-5, Ashok Vihar Phase-III, Gurugram, Haryana was apprehended from his house. A laptop, video camera, wireless mikes and an award trophy given by YouTube to ‘The Crazy Sumit’ for congratulations surpassing 1,00,000 subscribers were recovered from his house.
INTERROGATION: -
During interrogation, accused Sumit Kumar Singh disclosed that he created his channel/account on YouTube in the name of ‘The Crazy Sumit’ since one and half years. Three years back, he met with an accident and got bedridden for two months. In this period, he used to watch prank videos on YouTube. After watching such videos, he got the idea to earn money by making his own prank videos. Till date, he has made 35-40 pranks videos.
In October 2016, he has been awarded by YouTube on crossing 1,00,000 subscribers for his channel ‘The Crazy Sumit’. In December 2016, he planned to make the video of kissing the unknown girls and run away. In order to make this video, he contacted his friend Satyajeet Kadian @ Chintu and later on, other common friends including girls.
Satyajeet Kadian has shot 2 prank videos for Sumit. The kissing girls video was also shot by Satyajeet Kadian. Satyajeet Kadian is also a prankster and he has a channel/account in the name of ‘DC Prank’. The same was uploaded by him on 1st January 2017 on YouTube. But on getting negative comments by the viewers/subscribers of YouTube, he removed the alleged video from his channel/account but the same was downloaded by the other users/subscribers and posted again on YouTube.
On his disclosure, his associate Satyajeet Kadian @ Chintu s/o Sh. Surender Singh r/o H. No. 7, F- Block, Gali No. 1, Ashok Vihar Phase-III, Gurugram, Haryana was also apprehended from his house.
During interrogation, accused Satyajeet Kadian disclosed that he is a friend of Sumit Kumar Singh from college. When Sumit started his channel on YouTube in the name of ‘The Crazy Sumit’, he joined him and helped him in shooting the videos and arranging the cast. He also started a prank channel on YouTube in the name of ‘DC Prank’ from September 2016. He made 3 videos for himself. In the month of December, Sumit planned a prank video, in which he will kiss the unknown girls and run. He shot the video in three locations, one in Connaught Place and two other places in Gurugram.
Further investigation is continuing. It is to be verified whether the version of the two accused is true. Statements of the girls will be taken to know this aspect and also clarify if they were lured or otherwise. Investigation will also be conducted from the event management company, YouTube and Google to assess their criminal liability, if any. Only after conducting comprehensive investigation, decision will be taken about the culpability of the persons involved.

It is unfortunate that youngsters are falling prey to resorting to such pranks to earn money and recognition. The interrogation has revealed that they are trying to shoot videos which shock the viewers and get more hits. The trend is to shoot obscene videos to get more hits and thereby more money. Besides paying them to do this, YouTube and Google are further giving them incentives like recognition and certificates in parties organized by them. They are also hired by manufactures of games/apps to advertise for them and make new launches successful.
