Hon’ble Home Minister launches YUVA – a Delhi Police Initiative in Community Policing with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) & Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

  • Paperless process of selection of candidates.
  • 2269 candidates to be trained in 26 skills across 36 centres.
  • Candidates to be imparted job oriented training and provided jobs in collaboration with NSDC & CII.

Today, Sh. Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Home Minister inaugurated ‘YUVA’ – an initiative of Delhi Police to engage and steer street children & youth towards the mainstream of society, providing them opportunities to realise their potential and to utilize it professionally through skill development training. Sh. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State (IC), Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship & Sh. Anil Baijal, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Delhi were Guests of Honor of the event, while Sh. Rahul Chaudhry, Chairman (Delhi State), CII, Sh. Rajesh Agarwal, Jt. Secy, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Sh. Mannish Kumar CEO & MD, NSDC were also present to grace the occasion. The event was telecasted live on Delhi Police Twitter handle.

Delhi Police has tied up with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for providing mass job linked skill training for this selected youth. National Skill Development Corporation shall be providing skill training to this youth under ‘Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna’ (PMKVY) and CII will provide job linked training through its Sector Skill Councils who are connected to industry and thereby provide job guarantee.

Speaking on the occasion Sh. Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi thanked Hon’ble HM and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Hon’ble LG for their guidance and support in making this Community Policing initiative a big success. He informed that so far, 2,269 candidates have been selected to be trained by 36 training partners in 45 skills in the next three months. The whole process of selection of these candidates is paperless. The idea is to reconnect the youth that has alienated from society.  

Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, Spl. Commissioner of Police, WSA&M presented a blueprint of the scheme and informed that candidates for this programme have been selected on the basis of their their counselling conducted by professional counsellors of NSDC to select the skill for this training based on their qualification and their interest. NSDC and CII shall also give skill certificates to all the participants in the completion of the course and these institutions will also assist in providing the trained youth get jobs in the industry under PMKVY Scheme. At present 8 skill training centres have started in different districts in Delhi, while total of 32 police station buildings have been identified where Skill Development Centers would be opened at the earliest.
     
Sh. Anil Baijal, Hon’ble LG, Delhi expressed his happiness that he has seen a lot of change in market perception about Delhi Police, due to the force’s initiatives in community policing and its ‘connect’ with lower sections of society, especially youth. He said the youth trained under this scheme will be Brand Ambassadors of Delhi Police and will set an example for other states, to follow.  

In his address, Sh. Rajiv Pratap Rudy laid stress on professional training over academic knowledge. He defined the term kaushal as expertise in non-academic fields which are as important as theoretical knowledge. He also wished that the youth which is running away from police may go hand in hand with them with projects such as YUVA. He presented the figures that workforce average age in India is 29 years as against USA’s 46, which means our workforce has more potential than others and all we need to do is to tap that energy. that He said Hon’ble PM’s vision of Make in India can only be fulfilled by Makers of India.

Sh. Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Home Minister in his address stated that he was surprised with delight that Delhi Police has associated itself such a big project in community policing. He greeted the Commissioner of Police, Delhi and LG, Delhi for this praiseworthy initiative which will definitely improve the image of Delhi Police and will take police-public relations to a new high. He laid stress that though core policing i.e. crime prevention in itself is a hard task, but community policing via social interactions can give a new dimension to policing. He expressed his faith in lower ranks of police which connect directly with citizenry, especially the lower strata of the society. Finally, he stated that ability and talent is spread all over, be it a JJ cluster or streets of India and Delhi Police has given an opportunity to deprived youth to showcase their hidden talents.
