Sh. Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi launched the ‘School Road Safety Awareness Campaign – 2018-19’ at the NDMC Convention Centre, Connaught Place, New Delhi today.  The School Road Safety Awareness Campaign has been an annual feature of Road Safety Cell, Delhi Traffic Police since 2016 and this is the third edition of the campaign.

Speaking on the occasion Sh. Amulya Patnaik said,“ This is a special occasion as our Road Safety Campaign this year is coinciding with Swachhta Mission of Govt. of India and both these habits should be our prime responsibility as even after being the Capital, Delhi is still far from achieving the ideal tag. Good habits get inculcated at a young age and in due course become persistent habits. Awareness on road safety and cleanliness are intricately interconnected and these two need to be inculcated and cultivated at a very young age and should be imparted as a part of our academic curriculum as well as in upbringing, as a step towards preparing good citizens in nation building.” He further made an observation that we learn from each other and if we follow the rules, others will definitely observe you and start obeying. Cleanliness and road discipline should come habitually and naturally. CP/Delhi urged the Principals to reverberate these teachings in daily morning assembly, while thanking them along with teachers, students and our corporate partners. CP/Delhi congratulated Traffic staff who have been doing a commendable job on our roads, despite many challenges and braving extreme and divert weather conditions.

While delivering welcome address Sh. Taj Hassan, Spl. CP/Traffic underscored importance of imparting of road safety lessons to young children, being primary objective of the campaign. Around 12 lakh students from 1100 schools were imparted road safety training last year. This year DTP will be targeting 15 lakh students from around 1500 schools. Delhi Traffic Police will combine creativity and competition along with Govt. of India’s Swachhta Mission to inculcate good civic habits in children. The campaign has been designed to inculcate road safety/traffic sense through innovative and learning activities such as Painting, Quiz, Essay Writing & Nukkad Natak competitions at school, district, range and state level; to be followed during the awareness campaign spread over four months. The winning students/teams participating in each competition at each level will be awarded attractive prizes. By targeting the students the message of road safety will consequently get conveyed to their parents,  elders, relatives and peer groups which will have a positive impact on the society as a whole and we can expect well behaved disciplined road users in the future days to come.
