ANG OF 2 ARRESTED FOR SWAPPING AND SWIPING ATM CARD OF VICTIM

Used to come from Ghaziabad to commit crime, Used to swap the ATM card of victim at ATM Booth, Cheated Cash Rs. 17,000 of victim recovered

The staff of PS Hazrat Nizammuddin, South-East District has arrested a gang of 02 cheats namely (1) Nadeem, 25 years R/o Dabar Talab, Sangam Vihar, Loni, Ghaziabad and (2) Javed, 28 years R/o Dabar Talab, Sangam Vihar, Village Badarpur, Loni, Ghaziabad who used to swap ATM cards of victim’s in ATM Booth and used to withdraw money from victim’s account.    

Incident

  • Fraudulent transaction of Rs. 27,000/- from victims account
On 06.09.18, complainant R/o Staff Quarter, PS Hazrat Nizamuddin lodged an online FIR bearing no. SED-HND-000382/18, U/s 379 IPC. Complainant alleged that on 06.09.18, he went to withdraw cash from a SBI Bank ATM Booth at West Nizamuddin but ATM was not working and he returned home. After some time he received a text message on his mobile regarding withdrawal of Rs. 27,000 from his Bank account. Complainant immediately contacted his bank and came to know that the said money has been withdrawn using his ATM card and password. On this, complainant re-checked his ATM card and found that the card which he was possessing was not his rather it had been swapped at ATM booth by the alleged. Accordingly, after registration of the case investigation was taken up.

Team & Investigation

A team led by Insp. Satender Mohan, SHO/Hazrat Nizamuddin comprising of consisting of SI Bharat Singh, ASI Parmender, HC Radhey Lal and CT Dinesh was constituted under the supervision of Sh. Brijender Singh, ACP/Lajpat Nagar to investigate this case and to nab the accused persons.

  • CCTV Footage
During course of investigation the CCTV Footage of SBI ATM Booth, West Nizamuddin was procured and was analyzed. Further, the CCTV footage of the approaching roads were also obtained and it was found that the suspect persons were came on a Splendor Motorcycle bearing number DL 5SBC 7804. During course of investigation the ownership of above motorcycle has been obtained and it has come to notice that the above motorcycle is registered in the name of one person R/o Karawal Nagar.
  • Arrest
Police team examined the Karawal Nagar resident and he stated that the said motorcycle is not with him and is being used by his relative in Sangam Vihar, Loni, Ghaziabad. On 09.09.18, a raid was conducted at above address and accused Nadeem, 25 years R/o Dabar Talab, Sangam Vihar, Loni, Ghaziabad, UP was nabbed and the alleged motorcycle was recovered from his house. On his instance, his associate Javed, 28 years R/o Dabar Talab, Sangam Vihar, Village Badarpur, Loni, Ghaziabad, UP was also arrested and cash  amount of Rs. 17000/- was recovered from his possession. 

Interrogation
During sustained interrogation accused persons disclosed that they both lived in same locality and are childhood friends. Both the accused persons are school drop-out and are out of work. Both accused persons disclosed that in order to earn quick money they decided to cheat people by swapping their ATM cards and later withdrawing money from their accounts.

Modus Operandi
Accused Javed was previously arrested by police of PS Mansarovar Park in 02 similar cases of cheating. Accused persons targeted area of South-East Delhi to cheat the victims. They searched for an ATM booth wherein no guard was on duty and ATM machine was also not working or out of cash etc. Finally they waited for their target at SBI ATM at West Nizamuddin and once the victim entered the ATM, accused Nizam followed him and cleverly noted the PIN number entered by the victim. Meanwhile accused Javed was waiting outside the ATM on the Splendor Motorcycle.

Since the ATM machine was not working therefore no cash was dispersed from the machine. Accused Nizam asking victim to let him try and seeking no apprehension of any foul play victim allowed accused to use the ATM. Accused person very cleverly engaged victim in talks and diverted his mind and swapped his ATM card with another ATM card and after failed attempts left the ATM booth. Victim also went to his home. Accused persons went towards Sarai Kale Khan and there only withdrew Rs. 27,000 from another ATM booth and threw the ATM card on ring road.
