Self Defence training

 The Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) of Delhi Police is exclusively dealing with women safety issues and representing Delhi Police on various forums.  However, in view of increasing need to give special consideration to women, the Special Police unit for Women and Children is imparting Self Defence training to girl/women since 2002 in primarily marginalized sections of society for empowering them through training in martial arts. Through this wing, girl students, housewives across the NCT of Delhi are trained in basic Self Defence Techniques and taught how to make use of things like ‘Dupatta’, Pen, Handbags and other items available with them to protect themselves from attacks by anti social elements, criminals, snatchers etc.  This training helps in building the self confidence of girls/women so that they do not feel vulnerable and also encourage them to join professional combat courses in future.  The self defence techniques training classes, summer and winter camps, as well as one day self defence workshops are organized all over Delhi, free of cost.

                   Since 2002 till date total 1371 self defence training programmes have been conducted andtotal 2,21,866 participants i.e. school/college girls students, housewives and girls in educational institutions across the NCT of Delhi have been trained in basic self-defense techniques. During the year 2016, 160 programmes were conducted and 44,041 participants trained and 68 one day Self Defence workshops were organized which were attended by 10,059 girls/women). 

                   During the winter session 2016-17, SPUWAC has organized 3^rd Self Defence Winter Camp from 24.12.2016 to 10.01.2017 at the following locations of Delhi in which around 10,000 Participants registered themselves:-

                   Recently, 30 Women Constables of Self Defence Wing/SPUWAC got Brown Belt in Karate by attending rigorous training from ITBP Academy, Mussorrie, Uttrakhand. 

                   In 2016, SPUWAC also organized 47 Gender Sensitization training programme for boys in 47 schools, in which  9108 students were sensitized.

                   Today i.e. 10.01.2017, the Commissioner of Police, Delhi distributed Certificates to the participants of the Self Defence Winter Camp-2016-17 and also to the 30 trainers of Self Defence Unit, SPUWAC, who have recently obtained Brown Belt in Karate from ITBP Academy.
